10)
Under the “recovery” folder, create a folder called
“recovered” and below that another folder called
“completed.”
11) Open FileMaker Developer, select “File” from the file
menu and “Recover”. Select the first file to recover.
FileMaker will rename the file by adding “recovered” to the
file name. A file called call “Invoices.FP7” will be
renamed to “Invoices Recovered.FP7.” Select the Recovered
directory if it is not already selected. When completed a
dialog box will appear indicating the results of the file
recovery. Most will show all blocks and data was recovered
correctly. Repeat the previous steps until all files are
recovered.
12) Move the recovered file into your “Completed” folder in
preparation of the final recovery step, file maintenance.
13) Once all files have been moved into the Completed
folder, remove the “recovered” from each file, ensuring you
leave no undesired spaces in the file name.
Close the file that is currently open. In our case it's
still Invoice.FP7 and open the recovered file.
14) In FileMaker 7 select from the file menu; File
Maintenance. In FileMaker 8 and above select Tools and then
File Maintenance. Choose both check box options to Compact
and Optimize files. This function removes unused blocks,
shrinks file size and enhances file performance.
15) When complete, close the file and exit out of your
FileMaker client. Move all the repaired files from your
completed folder to the production folder, copying over the
existing files.
16) Restart the FileMaker service on your server. Open the
FileMaker Admin console and connect the host. Select from
the file menu, Action, Open all Files. As files open they
will say “Opening” and then “Normal” as they open
successfully.
17) You should now be able to connect to the hosted files
from a FileMaker client. If a file did not open see the
advanced section on
FileMaker File Cloning.
